Food Guidelines Post Band Adjustment
After your lap band adjustment it is important to change what foods you eat and how you eat them. These hints will help you adapt to a healthy diet by providing all the nutrients. you'll need to maximize your weight loss goals.
Your goal is to consume at least 60-80 grams of protein from your food and protein shake on a daily basis. Protein is an essential nutrient to the body. Its primary function is to aid in muscle and tissue repair. It will also help to maintain lean muscle mass as you lose fat. Protein is found in meat, fish, poultry, beans/legumes, eggs, tofu and dairy.
Step 1: (0-24 Hours After Adjustment. Drink 48-64 ounces of fluid to avoid dehydration.)
- Water/ice chips and non-carbonated liquids every 15 minutes
- Sugar free Jell-O
- Fat-free broth (chicken, beef or vegetable)
- Isopure protein supplement. (only the clear kind)
- Decaffeinated tea with sugar substitute
Step 2: (24-48 Hours After Adjustment. Eat 3 meals per day and consume 1-2 protein supplements between meals.)
- Low fat cottage cheese
- Soft cooked egg whites or eggbeaters
- Greek style yogurt
- Poached or baked fish (tilapia, catfish, red snapper, salmon... etc.)
- Canned tuna packed in water (moisten with low fat mayo, no celery or onions)
Step 3: (48 + Hours After Adjustment. Eat 3 meals per day and consume 1-2 high protein snacks between meals.)
Same as Step 2, but include:
- Cooked lentils, kidney beans, peas, and legumes
- Lean ground beef, chicken or turkey (Homemade chili, meatballs, meatloaf, or burgers)
- Boiled, stewed or soft baked chicken
- soft cooked pork, beef or lamb
- Nuts and natural nut butters
- High protein, reduced sodium soups
- Soft cooked carrots, squash, green beans, broccoli and cauliflower (puree all other vegetables)
- Canned fruit (drain syrup and rinse)
- Mashed ripe bananas
- Unsweetened applesauce
- Oatmeal (thin with skim milk or skim plus)
- Farina and Cream of Wheat (thin with skim milk or skim plus)
- Use Pam Cooking Spray for cooking
Foods NOT Allowed:
- Dry chicken or turkey
- Meats with visible gristle or fat
- Spicy foods
- Carbonated Soda
- Regular Mayo
- Sour Cream
- Cookies
- Backon and Sausage
- Alcohol
