Dietary Guideline Tips
- Patients are advised to remain on a liquid diet for 24 hours after being adjusted
- Progression to soft, then regular food is recommended the following day if no problems occur
- Eat Slower: The amount of food which can pass through the decreased opening size is far smaller after adjustment. If you do not decrease the rate at which you eat the food will have nowhere to go, back up into your throat, and you will vomit
- Cut food items into very small pieces
- Chew your food until it's soft, roughly 20-30 times. Food must be well chewed so that it does not plug the outlet and cause discomfort or vomiting.
- Eat your protein first
- Take no more than 20-30 minutes to eat every meal
- Do not skip a meal; eat 3-4 times a day
- Your ENTIRE diet should consist of 70% protein, 20% carbohydrates, and 10% fats
- Protein supplements should be taken 1-2 times per day (these are intended to supplement, not replace individual meals)
- Goal for most is to reach 60-70 grams of protein per day by diet or supplement
- Avoid fruit juices because they are high in calories and can reduce weight loss
- Medication intake should not be affected by band adjustment
- NO RESTRICTION on any type of physical activities after Band Adjustment.
